Overview
Michael Saunders focuses his practice on patent litigation for a diverse range of industry clients. In this role, he conducts research and prepares memoranda with up-to-date standards for developing patent law doctrines. He also collects and evaluates competitor and client patent portfolios, drafts office action responses, conducts fact inquiries, and works with clients and patent examiners to determine the degree of potential infringement.
Michael received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. At UVA, he was a member of the Patent and Licensing Clinic. He holds a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Florida where he was a founding member and Chair of Recruitment for The Big Event at UF and a science tutor at The UF Teaching Center. As a Captain for Dance Marathon at UF, he raised $1,800 for charity. Michael also received the Bright Futures Full Academic Scholarship for his academic excellence.
Professionally, Michael has a diverse background in tutoring, research, and clinical coordination. He previously worked as a self-employed MCAT and LSAT tutor, providing tailored instruction and application guidance, leading one client to be accepted to UVA Medical School. He also tutored additional students, offering pro bono support to those lacking resources. In another role he was a market researcher, updating client and competitor data in the software reseller industry. He was a Regulatory Assistant and Clinical Research Coordinator at the North Florida Foundation for Research and Education, overseeing trials and ensuring regulatory compliance. Additionally, as Lead Research Assistant at UF’s Department of Biology, Michael co-founded the Biology Career Pathway Research Project, where they compiled alumni career data and presented findings at a STEM conference.
