Washingtonian Names Steven Lieberman Among 2024 Top Lawyers

Washingtonian Magazine's 2024 "Top Lawyers," an annual list recognizing Washington, D.C.'s top legal talent across various practices as voted by area lawyers, includes Rothwell Figg partner Steven Lieberman. Steven is one of 21 Intellectual Property lawyers recognized in the magazine's December 2024 issue.

Steven is a litigator and counselor whose practice encompasses the spectrum of intellectual property law, from patent litigation, especially in the pharmaceutical-medical area, to eCommerce, privacy, and post-grant proceedings. He also has expertise in the rapidly growing field of artificial intelligence (AI). He has more than six years of experience advising entities spanning a wide range of industries, with particular focus on the media industry, on intellectual property and privacy issues concerning AI and machine learning. Recently, Steven and his colleagues filed a lawsuit on behalf of The New York Times against OpenAI and Microsoft alleging copyright infringement by their generative AI tools. He also represents eight local newspapers, including The New York Daily Mail and The Chicago Tribune, in a similar case against Microsoft and Open AI. Both cases are pending in the Southern District of New York.
