The 2020 edition of World Trademark Review 1000: The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals includes Rothwell Figg and partner Leo Loughlin among the rankings of firms and individuals that are deemed outstanding in providing world-class legal trademark expertise.
For the first time ever, Rothwell Figg is ranked among leading trademark firms in the D.C. metro area in the areas of Enforcement and Litigation as well as Prosecution and Strategy. This is the second year that Leo is ranked in the same areas.
The 10th edition of the guide includes the rich description below about the firm’s trademark practice, and in addition to Leo, highlights the impressive work of team members E. Anthony Figg, Steven Lieberman, Martin Zoltick ("Marty"), and Davide Schiavetti:
Rothwell Figg’s excellent domestic and international reputation among brand owners and foreign associates stems from its quality and efficiency. The esteemed DC boutique knows all the best maneuvers to obtain ironclad trademark protection at the UPSTO and how to get the most out of international contacts when filing around the world. Especially on the patent side, as well as in trademarks, the outfit is fleet of foot in administrative disputes and court litigation. Taking the lead where brands are concerned is Leo Loughlin, a persuasive force who can overturn trademark office refusals swiftly – something he has recently done for a diverse group of companies, including Valentino, Synthon and Ferrero. Correspondents abroad love working with him, finding him “incredibly helpful and responsive and quick and clear in his advice”. “Not only is he an effective and efficient attorney, he is also a genuinely charming person and a pleasure to work with.” It is not all about Loughlin though, as E. Anthony Figg, Steven Lieberman and Marty Zoltick – all familiar names to those with patent interests – make equally strong contributions. Trademark-focused associate Davide Schiavetti also deserves a mention for his support of Loughlin. In recognition of its depth, the group makes its first appearance in the WTR 1000 this year.
The WTR 1000 rankings remain the only standalone publication to recommend individual practitioners and firms exclusively in the trademark field, and it identifies the leading players in over 80 key jurisdictions globally. To research the market, WTR 1000 conducts face-to-face and telephone interviews and exchanges correspondence over a four-month period with hundreds of lawyers and their clients involved with trademarks. Written submissions from firms detailing recent activity in the field are also gathered. Individuals qualify for inclusion in the WTR 1000 upon receiving sufficient positive feedback from market sources with knowledge of their practice and the market in which they operate. Firms qualify for a listing on the basis of their depth of expertise, market presence, and the level of work on which they are typically instructed.
