Three Rothwell Figg Attorneys Earn CIPP/US Certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals
Rothwell Figg is pleased to announce that three members of the firm’s Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Data Protection practice, Steven Lieberman, Martin Zoltick ("Marty"), and Jennifer Maisel ("Jen"), are now U.S. Certified Information Privacy Professionals (CIPP/US), after earning the credential through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). Considered the global industry standard for privacy professionals, a CIPP credential demonstrates that a practitioner has a foundational understanding of broad global concepts of privacy and data protection law and practice, including: jurisdictional laws, regulations and enforcement models, essential privacy concepts and principals, legal requirements for handling and transferring data, and more.
As members of the firm’s Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Data Protection practice, Steven, Marty, and Jen regularly advise clients on the broad range of issues that businesses face daily in order to guard valuable intellectual property, secure data, and comply with the laws, rules, and regulations regarding privacy. Our attorneys work closely with clients to recognize, respond to, and minimize the serious risks associated with the collection, use, retention, disclosure, and disposal of personal information, susceptible IP, and data, as well as the design and implementation of cyber security and data protection best practices, compliance programs, and incident response plans to help organizations comply with the evolving new data privacy requirements. In the unfortunate circumstance when a company does face a breach, the Rothwell Figg team is well situated to assist during and in the aftermath of the incident, including taking immediate corrective measures, negotiating with the relevant regulatory authorities, defending against lawsuits arising from such breaches, and advising on improvements to the security and privacy programs for the future. Rothwell Figg attorneys also have extensive experience successfully representing clients in privacy-related investigations initiated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Steven has been a co-author of the District of Columbia section of the Media Law Resource Center’s annual 50-State Survey of Media Privacy and Related Law for more than 20 years.
