Recognition by Best Lawyers is based entirely on peer review. The methodology is designed to capture, as accurately as possible, the consensus opinion of leading lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues within the same geographical region and legal practice area. Best Lawyers employs a sophisticated, conscientious, rational, and transparent survey process designed to elicit meaningful and substantive evaluations of the quality of legal services. Ones to Watch adopts this same peer-review methodology and identifies extraordinary lawyers who have been in private practice for less than 10 years. This year’s edition of The Best Lawyers in America recognizes only the top 5.3% of elite lawyers in the nation across 150 practice areas. More than 12 million evaluations were considered, including submissions from lawyers with whom they’ve opposed in court, to identify this year’s exclusive group of Best Lawyers honorees. “Lawyer of the Year” designations are bestowed to only one lawyer with the highest average votes in their particular practice and region, indicative of a stellar reputation and work ethic. For 2023, 0.4% of all practicing attorneys across the country are presented this award.
