Associate Nicole DeAbrantes ("Nikki") will participate on a panel titled "Synergistic Practice Areas that Complement Well With Intellectual Property" at the Association of Intellectual Property Firms (AIPF) 2024 Annual Meeting taking place September 25-27, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. Nikki will speak about Rothwell Figg's privacy practice.
There are practice areas that complement an IP practice well and can help promote the overall IP boutique practice. These areas include translation and other non-legal services, early-stage start-up support including project-structuring, capital raising, and shareholder agreements. Depending on jurisdiction, some firms may even explore alternative fee arrangements, such as profit sharing, to further align their interests with client success.
This year’s theme is "Leveraging the Boutique IP Firm's Sweet Spot to Maximize Sustainability and Minimize Risk." The boutique firm offers many interesting characteristics and benefits that general practice firms cannot match. At the same time, there are business conditions and requirements that will challenge a boutique firm and favor the GP firm. Playing in that sweet spot is important and an ever-moving target. What can we learn from past mistakes, from new technological and business opportunities and just staying abreast of ethical rules and your client-base? Additional topics will include:
- Firm Management – Life Lessons we can Learn From Litigators at Law Firms: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
- Pricing – Feedback from In-House Counsel
- Attorney-Client Privilege/Conflict of Interest
- Getting the most out of your Conference: What Conferences Should I Attend?
- Cybersecurity
- Ownership Models/Succession Planning
