Attorney James Hastings ("Jamie") will moderate the session titled "The Emergence of Schedule 'A' Lawsuits in Online Counterfeit Enforcement" during the 2024 American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) Annual Meeting taking place October 24-26, 2024, in National Harbor, Maryland.
Schedule "A" cases are anti-counterfeiting lawsuits that name dozens, oftentimes hundreds, of defendants in a single action. Jamie and the panelists will discuss the emerging role of Schedule "A" cases for intellectual property owners who have identified a large amount of online infringement. The panel will cover key issues in these cases including joinder, alternative service, personal jurisdiction, and a court’s ability to freeze financial assets as part of a temporary restraining order, and there will be a discussion of common defenses for online sellers named as defendants in one of these lawsuits.
The AIPLA Annual Meeting is a three-day, multi-track conference to help 1500+ intellectual property practitioners supercharge their skills and careers. Founded in 1897, AIPLA is a national bar association constituted primarily of practitioners in private and corporate practice, in government service, and in the academic community. AIPLA represents a wide and diverse spectrum of individuals from law firms, companies, and institutions involved directly or indirectly in the practice of patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and unfair competition law, as well as other fields of law affecting intellectual property. Members represent both owners and users of intellectual property.
