Associate Davide Schiavetti will serve as the moderator for the CLE program "Brand Protection in the Metaverse" at the 2023 ABA-IPL Section Annual Meeting - IPLSPRING taking place April 12-14, 2023, in Washington, D.C.
The rise of the metaverse raises new issues for brand owners in the procurement, protection, and enforcement of trademark rights. Lawsuits recently filed in U.S. courts by luxury brands, such as Hermes and Nike, challenge whether the creation, marketing, and sale of NFTs incorporating third-party trademarks and trade dress without authorization violate IP laws. Davide and the panel will focus on these pending cases and their potential to establish precedent for whether and how these laws will govern the use of enforcement in the metaverse.
Rothwell Figg is a proud gold sponsor of the 2023 ABA-IPL Section Annual Meeting. From its strength within the American Bar Association, the ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law (ABA-IPL) advances the development and improvement of intellectual property laws and their fair and just administration. The Section furthers the goals of its members by sharing knowledge and balanced insight on the full spectrum of intellectual property law and practice, including patents, trademarks, copyright, design, and trade secrets.
The annual meeting will provide insight and ideas from IP experts and practitioners who will discuss the most critical issues in IP law.
