Benjamin R. Holt* Associate
Overview

Benjamin R. Holt’s practice encompasses all aspects of patent law, including patent litigation, post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, patent prosecution, opinions, and counseling. Mr. Holt has experience in a wide range of technical fields including chemical, biological, pharmaceutical, mechanical, and computer-related arts.

Prior to joining Rothwell Figg, Mr. Holt prosecuted patents and counseled clients on intellectual property matters through various positions that he held with the Intellectual Property Law Clinic at Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law, the Office of Counsel for the Naval Surface Warfare Center’s Crane Division, and the law firms of Dority & Manning, P.A. and Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP. Additionally, Mr. Holt worked as a Technical Associate in the Plastic Additives Department of Milliken Chemical.

Mr. Holt graduated cum laude from Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law. During law school, he was recognized as a National Semifinalist and regional multi-award winner in the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition. At Maurer School of Law, Mr. Holt served on the Editorial Board for IP Theory and as the Executive Outreach Editor for the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies, in which he published an article in the area of patent and antitrust law. Additionally, he was a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Center for Intellectual Property Research, Vice President of the student Intellectual Property Association, Chief Justice of the Adams Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta, and a Dean-appointed member of the Student Petitions and Appeals Faculty Committee.

In 2013, Mr. Holt graduated summa cum laude from Wofford College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics, a Concentration in Computational Science, and Minors in Computer Science and Economics. While an undergraduate student, Mr. Holt conducted computational chemistry research in the laboratories of Dr. Lasse Jensen at Penn State University and Dr. Haibo Yu at the University of Wollongong.
